Job Description

Job description: 

  • Full time position responsible for diagnosis, repair, maintenance and inspection of equipment and trucks as well as various utility related equipment
  • Five to ten plus years of CAT experience required

Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of CAT diesel and gas engines and hydraulic systems required



  • Engages in required safety practices at all times
  • Ability to mentor and be a working mentor
  • Reads and understands the manufacturers' Operation, Maintenance, Parts and Service Manuals per machine type and complies with its contents
  • Inspects machines for damage and notifies the Equipment Manager regarding any specific damage that was found
  • Attends required training
  • Communicates effectively with Equipment Manager and Shop Foreman to ensure problems, nature of repair, and status of repairs are understood and followed up on
  • Field service oriented, however some shop service is required
  • Clean and professional appearance


  • Uses safe working practices and follows all company safety requirements
  • Familiarity with Caterpillar SIS parts ordering system
  • Cleans, repairs, reconditions, and maintains equipment and components
  • Prepares, inspects, and operates machines prior to completion
  • Removes, disassembles, assembles, and installs components and parts
  • Determines reusability of parts in accordance with reusability guidelines
  • Orders replacement parts ensuring that parts orders are correct and complete at the time of order
  • Services and maintains equipment owned by the company
  • Tests, measures, and adjusts engine and machine systems and components
  • Diagnoses and troubleshoots machine and engine malfunctions and failures
  • Maintains a clean and organized work area
  • Makes recommendations as to repairs
  • Makes parts replacement decisions assuring optimum economic reusability
  • Accurately troubleshoots and repairs equipment the first time
  • Reads, understands, and applies electrical and hydraulic schematics to repair work
  • Safely rigs or hooks components for lifting
  • Removes, repairs, and installs major components in varying configurations of equipment
  • Makes determinations in the field on possible warranty repair and guidelines, communicating decisions to Equipment Manager
  • Maintains service vehicles in a safe, clean and good working order


  • Prepares accurate and complete time card entries in a timely manner
  • Prepares inspection and maintenance reports
  • Correctly charges work to appropriate work orders
  • Interacts with team on any and all repair concerns



Minimum Education Required:  High School Diploma or GED with graduation from an accredited technical school in diesel engine or earthmoving repair preferred or applicable experience.

Minimum Experience Required:  10 to 15 years in CAT heavy equipment, engine, or electric power generation system repair.

Administrative / Clerical Experience:  Basic Level

Computer Skills:  Basic ability to search for and enter data into a computer.

Technical and Mechanical:  Master Level
