Job Description

The Tax Office is looking for an Accounting Assistant (Tax Intern) to participate in a five-month tax internship from January 1, 2023 – May 31, 2023. This individual will serve on a collaborative, collegial team that is responsible for ensuring the University’s compliance with matters related to its domestic and international tax obligations.

The Johns Hopkins University Tax Office reports through the Controller to the University’s Chief Financial Officer and is an integral member of this high performing, client focused team.

The tax internship will allow an individual to gain familiarity with the various tax reporting requirements of a global enterprise and an understanding of how an internal tax department operates and functions. The Tax Intern will have exposure to a variety of different tax compliance filings including, but not limited to, payroll tax, sales tax, not-for-profit informational reporting and unrelated business income tax. The Tax Intern will support these efforts by compiling financial information, preparing report reconciliations and summarizing incoming data from across the University. The ideal candidate will bring attention to detail and a willingness to learn to the role.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Classifies and analyzes accounting transactions requiring knowledge of accounting practices, procedures, and systems.
  • Analyzes certain expense activities.
  • Prepares excel spreadsheets to summarize K-1 unrelated business income transactions.
  • Reconciles information for preparation of tax forms.
  • Verifies information and accuracy of information reported through correspondence with departmental administrators
  • Documents information obtained through analysis and inquiries.
  • Applies knowledge of applicable tax laws and regulations.



Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or graduation equivalent.
  • Six months related experience.
  • Additional education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
  • Currently enrolled in undergraduate/graduate accounting, finance, business or related program.



Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in preparing worksheets using Microsoft Excel features.

Starting Salary Range: $15.00-$19.90 HRLY (Commensurate with experience)
