Job Description

The Emerald Cloud Laboratory (ECL) enables life scientists to move out of the lab, and to conduct research entirely from a computer. Stepping away from manual completion of experiments at the bench, scientists on the ECL leverage the remote, automated execution of all standard biology and chemistry experiments in Emerald’s industrial lab facilities, working within a software platform for all stages of research workflows, from experimental design to data analysis. Our system empowers scientists at Big Pharma companies, startups, and academic laboratories by allowing them to run wet lab experiments from anywhere in the world without ever stepping foot into the lab. This is where you come in.   We are looking for a Network and Systems Administrator to maintain, upgrade and manage our network, software, and hardware. Resourcefulness is a necessary skill in this role. You should be able to diagnose and resolve problems quickly. You should have the patience to communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and users. Your goal will be to ensure out technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently.

This position can be summed up with the following responsibilities:

    • Fully support, configure, maintain and upgrade our networks and in house servers
    • Install and integrate new server hardware, software, and SaaS applications
    • Support end users on site 5 days a week
    • Ensure security through access controls, backups and firewalls
    • Set up accounts and workstations
    • Monitor performance and maintain systems according to requirements
    • Troubleshoot issues and outages including performance of the network, and Hyper-V
    • Upgrade systems with new releases and models
    • Develop expertise to train staff on new technologies
    • Contribute to internal knowledge base and participate in cross-training

Required Experience:

    • Proven experience in network administrator and sysadmin roles
    • Hands on experience in networking, routing, switching, security, and data backup/recovery
    • Excellent knowledge of best practices around management, control, and monitoring of server infrastructure
    • Experience with firewalls, Internet VPN’s remote implementation, troubleshooting, and problem resolution
    • Ability to set up and configure server hardware
    • Familiarity with backup and recovery software and methodologies
    • Proven Cisco, AWS, Active Director, Hyper-V Experience
    • Great at organizing and prioritizing
    • Ability to create scripts in Python, Perl or other language
    • Familiarity with various operating systems and platforms
    • BSc/Ba in Information Technology, Computer Science or equivalent experience; professional certification (e.g. CCNA, Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA)) is a plus
