Responsible for tracking, monitoring, and updating drivers’ DOT credentials. This role requires collaboration with other departments, drivers, and 3rd party entities to keep driver qualifications current and DOT-compliant.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Review driver logs to confirm DOT compliance. Confirm proper completion of logs, evaluate truck speed, review driver hours of service, check fuel stops, and review other regulatory items.
Identify missing or incorrect logs and work with the appropriate entities to resolve identified issues.
Counsel and advise drivers on proper log completion.
Educate drivers on mistakes they have made and how to avoid repeat DOT violations.
Identify drivers that require log training and work with fleet management to schedule driver for training classes.
Evaluate driver violations on a case-by-case basis. Determine if a disciplinary write up is appropriate.
Update driver files and maintain them in order.
Review and check logs for random and DOT audits.
Request, coordinate, and/or review driver qualification records within the timelines specified by DOT regulations and Aqua Gulf Xpress' internal policies. Driver qualification records include: Motor Vehicle Records, DOT Inspection Reports, DOT Annual Reviews, DOT Physical Exams, Commercial Driver’s Licenses, Citations, Drug and Alcohol Testing Records, Driver Logs, Vehicle Maintenance Records, and other documents required by Aqua Gulf Xpress.
Audit driver qualification records in accordance with DOT and company guidelines; immediately notify Safety Manager of any driver determined to be out of compliance with DOT regulations and/or company guidelines.
Notify drivers and/or Operations personnel in advance of any driver whose qualifications are scheduled to expire in the near future. Provide specific instructions on what is needed to maintain qualifications and assist as necessary to prevent lapses.
Answer questions and provide assistance to those calling our Safety line. Maintain availability for handling incoming calls throughout entire shift.
Document all pertinent driver interactions and/or safety information within designated systems.
Establish and maintain effective business relationships with our 3rd party partners involved in the driver qualification process.
Analyze trends and historical information to identify areas where compliance issues are occurring.
Review area processes and procedures to identify improvement opportunities. Communicate improvement ideas to safety Director.
Learn, understand, and be able to teach incoming drivers how to use our ELD system (Verizon Fleet Work Plan).
Assist in administering other safety programs and/or functions as directed by our Safety Manager.
Perform Orientation and safety training along with various other administrative functions.
